To friend, Debbie Goodman

Debbie,

When we first met, I was in the midst of raging against a war within my body. We met in the Fall of 2010 at a Colts Softball practice. I had just undergone my first Chemo treatment and was sitting far away from the crowd wearing my big black hat and sunglasses; to keep me away from germs and protect my chemo skin from the sun. You didn't say anything that day, but once we spoke at the next game, you took me under your wing. You made me feel normal, loved, part of the group in our new neighborhood. You showed my daughter that women can survive breast cancer and live a good life! She needed that. She was so scared that I was going to die, you saved her from worry - thank you. Over the past year, your family has become an extension of our family.

I have only known you for a year, there is so much more I want to know about you. There just hasn't been enough time. Here is what I am sure of, with your incredibly beautiful soul, my friend, you are going to have the biggest angel wings...just amazing wings that will carry you wherever you want to go. Just as you have carried me under your wing and made me feel welcome, God is carrying you and you are safe in his arms. We haven't had any discussions on faith, I don't really know what you believe - but I know you are a christian woman and that the way you lived your life is an exemplary example of Christianity, so it is not possible that you have any other path ahead of you than heaven.

For those of us who will be left behind, the days are so hard, thinking of life without you. What is keeping me strong is the vision of you in heaven; happy, strong, playing softball, laughing, and loving all of those around you. Imagine how fun a softball game with flying players will be!!!

I love you Debbie Goodman and thank God for leading me to you, even if for a short time. As they say, it is much better to have loved and lost then to never have loved at all.

My promise to you is that I will do all that is in my power to help your family and love your girls and keep my eye on Mike. If they will have me, I will love them with all that I have.

So, you are still raging with this war, I will continue to pray for a miracle, that God will change his mind. I am reading this book, Heaven is for Real - Debbie it is AMAZING - I would love to read it to you....you will get to hear all about how heaven is for real - from the words of a 4 year old...so precious.

Hang in there my friend, and, you are so loved.
